We grew up believing fruit is good for you and while that’s basically true, when it comes to nutrition, not all fruit is created equal. With all the options out there, we should keep in mind that some fruit has more sugar than others, but as a whole, fruit is full of heart-healthy nutrients that are important to our health and wellness.
“Whole fruit contains natural sugars, along with an abundance of vitamins, minerals, and powerful antioxidants that are vital to health,” explains dietitian Jillian Kubala. “The issue with fruit is not the sugar content per se, it’s the amount of fruit that is consumed and how the fruit is processed.”
Kubala advises focusing on serving sizes and processing, not which fruit contains the least sugar. She says fresh fruit is a perfect, healthy snack for kids and adults, but it’s important to keep moderation in mind, as usual.
