As a native Washingtonian, I've always been a huge fan of DC sports teams. I worshiped the Redskins during the Joe Gibbs era. Like many football fans, I've been holding out hope that they'd win the Superbowl again in my lifetime. Still waiting.
When I met my husband 10-years ago, I quickly learned he was a HUGE Washington Capitals fan. He has played recreational hockey since he was a teenager. We bought season tickets and started attending games...and before long, I became a hardcore Caps fan too. Thanks to my job, I've had the opportunity to work with the team and meet some of the players over the years. I REALLY, REALLY wanted them to win the Stanley Cup...so when it finally happened on my birthday (June 7th)...it was overwhelming. My husband I both hugged and cried at the moment they won the championship.
Since that day in June, I was trying to figure out way to SEE the Stanley Cup in person. I wasn't sure how that was going to happen...then YESTERDAY, Lord Stanley came to ME! Well, sort of. The Caps brought the Cup to our sister station, DC 101...and I had the chance to run down the hall and embrace Stanley.
I was overcome with emotion. Here's a video and some pics from the magical moment...
