Red Flags To Look Our For Before Donating To Charity!

With all the crap going on in the world today, giving to charity is probably the least we can do. There’s something about doing the little bit that we can that helps us rest a little easier. But there are some red flags you should look out for before your fork up the big bucks to charity. Here are some bad signs:

  • You’re asked to wire

  • The charity is brand new.

  • The charity keeps blowing up your phone.

  • The organization claims that 100% of donations go to the cause. (That’s never true.)

  • Information about the organization isn’t clear.

  • The nonprofit isn’t registered in a public record.

  • The charity or organization has terrible reviews.

  • The organization isn’t actually using the money for anything.

  • The organization claims they need the money “immediately.”

When you’ve finally decided you’re going to give up some of your hard-earned cash for the greater good, do your research before you hand it over. The last thing you want is for your money to go to some sleezeball sitting in his mom’s basement trying to scam people using a serious issue. Thank you, next!

And P.S. A GREAT site to give you the skinny on any charitable organization is Charity Navigator. It’s a one-stop shop to see how long the charity has been around, what the money is going for… and how transparent they are overall.
