The marketing team for Payless tried an experiment and boy did influencers fall for it. The retailer opened a “new” store called Palessi, which was said to feature high end shoes. They invited influencers and professionals who convince consumers to buy certain products.
How badly do those attending fall for it? Some paid between 400 to 600 bucks for shoes Payless sells for up to 40 dollars. Ouch. Those who didn’t were impressed by the quality of the shoes.
The campaign aimed to show that good quality doesn’t have to come with a steep cost.
