CHILLI: Santa Came By Our House Last Night!

One of the greatest things about being a parent is seeing the world through your child's eyes. This time of year is so much fun because the anticipation of Santa is magical. We took Donato to get his pics taken with Santa a couple of weeks ago. He was so excited to tell the big guy what he wanted for Christmas (as long as he was a good boy).

Well, there are some local fire departments that like to keep the magical alive by visiting neighborhoods. They've been doing this for the past few years. I never know what day they're coming by, so I didn't realize what the sirens outside our house were until I looked out the window.

Two fire trucks were parked outside in our cul-de-sac...with Santa waiting for kids to come out. Donato and I scrambled to put our shoes on and raced outside. He was so stunned and star-struck that he didn't know what to do. One of the firefighters jumped off the truck and gave him a hat. Another one ran over and gave him a candy cane. All the while, Donato couldn't take his eyes off Santa.

When my husband came home from work a few minutes later, Donato said, "Dad...Santa came by on the fire truck!" Listening to him share all the details made my heart smile. I think it's so great that fire departments bring such joy to their communities.

Here's a quick video of the magical encounter...
