Woman Wins $10,000 For Reading The Fine Print!

Travel insurance company Squaremouth started a secret contest called Pays to Read, to reward a customer for actually reading the fine print of their contract. They buried details of a $10,000 prize to go to the first person who found it on page seven of their contract and the the contest was going to be open for 12 months, but they weren’t sure if anyone would even find it in that time.

So they were shocked when Donelan Andrews claimed the prize after only 23 hours. The home ec and consumer science teacher from Georgia says one of the life skills she teaches her students is to read a contract, so that’s just what she did. Andrews was checking out the travel insurance documents ahead of an upcoming trip to Scotland to celebrate her 35th anniversary and her upcoming retirement.

Now Andrews will have that $10,000 to help finance her vacation and has set an excellent example for her students. The company was so impressed by her, they’re also giving $5,000 each to the two high schools where she teaches. Squaremouth CEO Chris Harvey says, “Her enthusiasm inspired us to make additional donations.”
