A Swedish environmental activist has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize for her hard work to combat global warming.Greta Thunberg is only 16, but she’s devoted to bringing awareness to the issue and has been a catalyst for change. After Sweden had its hottest summer on record, she went on strike in August to force politicians to do something, inspiring thousands of other young people to get involved too.
Greta created the #FridaysForFuturemovement, which rallied thousands of teens to skip school this Friday to march for government action on environmental issues. She spoke at theUnited Nations Climate Change Conferencein Poland last December, telling lawmakers they were “not mature enough to tell it like it is.”
Several Norwegian lawmakers nominated the teen climate change activist for the award, including Freddy André Øvstegård who says, “Greta Thunberg has launched a mass movement which I see as a major contribution to peace.”
