Everybody probably fibs a little bit on their resume, but it seems Millennials are the most likely to be lying through their teeth on that all important document.
A new survey by GoBankingRates finds that while only 5% of respondents were willing to admit to lying on their resume, 11% of Millennials say they have. As for the most honest folks, that would be Baby Boomers, with only 2% falsifying info on the document. Interestingly, those in Generation Z (born between 1996 and 2010), were the “most tempted to lie,” with 14% saying they would consider it.
So, what is everyone lying about? Well, according to the survey work experience is the most common lie, with 38% of people admitting to fibbing about it.Other common resume lies include:
- Dates of employment – 31%
- Job titles – 16%
- Reference – 15%
- College Education – 11%
- Responsibilities at previous roles – 7%
- GPA – 4%
- Internship experience – 2%
