Laundromats are hosting story time to improve literacy!

Laundromats can be a time suck and not very prodictiveLaundromats can be very unproductive for kids so librarians are holding story time to improve literacy while the clothes get clean!

The Too Small to Fail initiative has been trying to improve children’s literacy by bringing books, story time, and reading groups to unusual community spaces, such as laundromats.

Every weekend, volunteer librarians would team up with laundromat owners in order to transform a corner of the facility into a learning corner equipped with educational toys and books.

7-Eleven Owner Helps Shoplifting Teen Instead of Having Him Arrested!

A 7-Eleven store owner was working in the back office when an employee alerted him to a possible shoplifter. Jitendra Singh watched as a teen slyly pocketed items such as gum and candy. By the time Singh went into the main store area, the shoplifter was at the counter paying for a few items.

But Singh knew teen had more in his pockets. The store owner cofnrontedThe store owner confronted the teen and when he asked why he was stealing the merchandise, the teen said it was because he and his younger brother were hungry.

The store owner decided not to report the boy to the police. Instead, Singh gave him some real food and sent him on his way Saturday night. Singh, who has owned the 7-Eleven in Toledo, Ohio, for five years, said his store offers pizza, chicken wings, taquitos, nachos and sandwiches -- all of which make for a much better meal.

A customer who witnessed the incident posted about it on Facebook. The post has resonated with thousands of people, garnering more than 1,600 shares and 3,700 likes.

A Local Man Wins Boston Marathon Wheelchair Division!

Boston Marathon not only host runner but those who move in other ways!

Competitors in push-rim wheelchairs cover the same mileage, powered by arms and hands. 20-year-old Daniel Romanchuck pushed into the lead and crossed the finish line a winner.

He grew up in Mount Airy, Md., and entered a special sports program at Kennedy Krieger High School in Baltimore 18 years ago.

Romanchuk became the youngest push rim race winner in Boston Marathon history and the first US men’s wheelchair champion since 1993.

His time of one hour, 21 minutes and 36 seconds beat two European favorites.
