Ikea Employees Reveal The Best Time To Shop!

Going to Ikea takes some mental preparation and planning. Shopping at the enormous Swedish home goods store means navigating crowds, dealing with lots of other confused folks pushing strollers who can’t find their way around either, and that makes it easy to lose your patience before you even get to the kitchen showroom. And if you’re there on a Saturday, it’s ten times worse.

But if you want the best Ikea shopping experience, go on Monday mornings. Weekends are way more crowded and employees confirm early on a Monday is the quietest time they have. They also say it’s the best time to score deals because of all the customer returns and items broken in-store over the weekend, the discounted as-is section is well stocked early in the week.

If you can’t make it to Ikea on a Monday morning, it’s still possible to have a pleasant shopping experience, just follow these tips fromJanice Simonsen, Ikea’s U.S. Design Spokesperson.

  • Go on any weekday morning or night- It doesn’t have to be a Monday, most weekdays have lighter traffic and a calmer environment to browse and shop. If you can’t make it in the morning, go just before closing time when it’s emptier.
  • Always, always, always grab a store map- Sure, you’ll feel a little dorky, but it really is easy to get lost in there and you’ll be glad you have the map instead of having to wander aimlessly. Trust the voice of experience here.
  • Come with a plan- People get frazzled easily at Ikea when they don’t have a mission in mind. Make a plan of attack and know what you’re trying to accomplish so it’s not so overwhelming.
  • Take notes- Use the Ikea notecards and pencils they have around the store so you can write down location numbers of items you may buy. The price tag lists colors, materials and sizes, along with the shelf number where you can find the item, all info that’ll help make your shopping trip easier.
