The Way Teens Are Getting Their News!

There is a lot of misinformation and “fake news” that gets spread through social media, and that’s definitely not a good thing, especially since a new report reveals that’s how most young people are getting their news these days.

A new study by Common Sense finds that 54% of teens get their news at least a few times a week through social media sites like Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, while another 50% say they get it from YouTube. And when it comes to YouTube, teens aren’t necessarily watching videos from news organizations. Instead, celebrities, influencers, and personalities are the news sources for 60% of YouTube watchers.

And when it comes to actual news organizations, only 41% of teens say they get their news from print or online sources, while 37% get it from TV. Of those who do get their news directly from organizations, 65% say it helped them better understand current events, something only 59% of those getting news from YouTube and 53% of those getting it from social media admit. In fact, 19% of teens getting their news from social media say it made them more confused about current events.
