A Hotel Is Offering a Free Stay for Women Who Propose on Leap Day

Thinking of proposing soon? The Hotel Ranga in Iceland is encouraging women to do it by offering them a free one-night stay if they pop the question to their partners on Leap Day, February 29th. They want women to “Take the Leap” and even provide an in-house wedding coordinator to work out all the details.

The four-star hotel suggests romantic proposal spots, like underneath a crystallized waterfall or arriving at the hotel in a helicopter. They offer a complimentary breakfast, chocolate-covered strawberries, and a bottle of Champagne to celebrate afterwards, followed by stargazing with a pair of 11-inch computerized telescopes on the hotel’s observatory. Later, there’s a dinner of Icelandic specialties, like creamy lobster soup and fillet of lamb. And then the newly engaged couple can go for a soak in one of their hot tubs filled with heated geothermal water while trying to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

"Iceland in general is a big champion of women, and we love that Leap Year has this tradition where it's good luck for ladies to propose marriage on this day,” explains the hotel’s marketing manager. “We wanted to empower women to have the courage to take the lead not only on Leap Day, but every day, and celebrate them for it!."
