Looking for ways to distract yourself from coronavirus news? You could try taking “The Science of Well-Being,” Yale University’s most popular class of all time. The course was created by professor Laurie Santos to help college students boost their mental health and happiness by building more productive habits. And you can enroll online at Coursera for free.
With so many of us at home right now, lots of people are giving it a try - more than a million people have signed up for the next session, which starts this week. Auditing the class is free and it’s $49 if you want access to the full course materials and a certificate of completion. There’s so much uncertainty in the world right now and focusing on achievable goals, like taking an online course, is a good way to ease anxiety. Plus, this one has the extra bonus of being a class about creating practices to improve mental health.
Professor Santos explains that happiness doesn’t come from circumstances or achievements, but from simple daily practices, like being grateful, living in the present moment, and connecting with others. And this may be the perfect time to focus on these ideas to help us deal with the challenging times we’re facing.
