VA Man Recovers from COVID-19

The Northern Virginia father who was on “death’s doorstep” with COVID-19, reunited with his family after three weeks in the hospital.

Titou Phommachanh, 44, of Manassas Virginia, tested positive for the novel coronavirus. His health took a drastic decline and he was put in a medically induced coma and lung bypass machine.

For weeks, his wife, Amanda Phommachanh, documented the uncertain journey on Facebook videos.

She’d been dreaming of the special 21-mile drive to the hospital since March 11.

“It’s been 23 days,” she told ABC7 reporter Victoria Sanchez in an exclusive interview.

On April 2nd, she drove to the hospital to finally pick up 44-year-old Titou Phommachanh.

Titou lost weight and is weak. His doctors say it will take at least two months for him to fully recover from the pneumonia he came down with because of COVID-19.

He survived and wants the world to know.

“When I woke up, the only thing I saw was bad news. Five-thousand people died. So, I am glad I was able to give some hope to other people. There are some good stories out there,” he said.
