Oh, how the times have changed. When we first started “staying home,” we were all worried about staying in contact with one another. Then Zoom came into our lives and we were all pumped to chat with friends and family 40-minutes at a time. But now with one Zoom work meeting after another, the novelty is starting to wear off,and the fatigue is kicking in.
Luckily, a genius fourth-grader came up with a hack to get out of your next conference call. The key is to make it look like you’re having connection issues on your end. Right-click on yourself, select “Rename,” and type in “Reconnecting...” Just don’t click OK yet. You’ll need to hit ALT + V and then ALT + A to drop your video and audio before confirming the name change to make the whole thing look seamless. On their screen, it should look like your feed dropped out and your device is trying as hard as it can to “reconnect.”
Use this strategy at your own risk since your boss might be too savvy to fall for it. But at least if you get caught doing it this way, they may give you credit for effort and creativity. That, or they’ll fire you. Either way, if you want to be ‘Ferris Bueller 2.0,’ you’re going to have to take some risks!
