Your Favorite Pop Songs Get a Medieval Twist in New Trend

What is old is new again when it comes to bardcore style music.

Now this may not be a genre you are used to it. A new trend is going around where musicians around the world are doing covers of pop hits from the ’60s to 2020, as medieval ballads. Songs like

  • ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ by Foster the People and
  • Dolly Parton’s ‘Jolene’, to
  • Goyte’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’
  • Shakira’s ‘Hips Don’t Lie’,
  • I want it that way’ by the “Squires of Backstreet”

Set to the original tune, the instruments in these songs include the Celtic harp, whistles, and other sampled medieval sounds to give it an old-timey (5th Century to 15th Century AD) feel.
