Two metro stations in the DMV could see a name change soon.
Over the summer, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors officially requested the Tysons Corner Metro be changed to Tysons Metro. A county staff report cited rebranding efforts for the census-designated place now known as Tysons.
The Metro station name change would result in changes to the Metro system maps, digital signs, etc costing over $670,000.
The new name must also identify the station location by geographic features, be distinctive and evoke imagery, and be no longer than 19 characters (or 13 characters for transfer station names).
In addition to the Tysons Corner station name change in Fairfax County, a name change is requested for the Prince George's Plaza Station. Prince George's County officials requested the name be changed to Hyattsville Crossing.
The name changes must be approved by the Metro Board of Directors.
Do you think we need these name changes?
