What Your Selfie Style Says About You

While selfie-sticks have fallen out of favor, selfies are still all the rage. And we’ve come a long way from the days of bathroom mirrors and digital cameras. How we take our selfies says much more about us than “I need attention” and “here’s my face.” Here are some popular selfie techniques and what VICE thinks it says about you.

Selfie Of You Holding Up A Beer And/Or In Front Of A Funny Sign. You’re a cis millennial man that’s uncomfortable posting pictures of yourself online, but feel too young to give up social media. If we continue to scroll through your feed, you probably have some pics of having ‘beers with the boys,’ a picture of a dog that you possibly do not own, and any other picture of you was clearly taken by your boo.

Lo-Fi Selfie In A Dirty Mirror With A Deadpan Expression. You probably come from a bit of money and that came in handy to help when you went to art school. You’ve most likely used #art unironically on your feed and may embellish having a drug habit.

Candid Crying Selfie About How Social Media Isn't Real Life. You’re either having a legitimate mental health crisis or someone that noticed that your engagement has been down lately and figured a sad-fie could score you some quick likes. Maybe even a couple of thoughtful DMs as well.

Couple Selfies Only. If couple selfies dominate your stories, they most likely include a caption like “can’t believe I get to spend my life with this one!” and maybe a few kissy-face emojis. These pics will be all your friends see for a solid few months until they mysteriously disappear, only to be replaced with a new crop featuring you and another S.O. with some very similar captions.
