Teens Are Getting Stuck in Baby Swings in New Trend

Not all the trends that pop up on TikTok are hits, some can get you hurt and some can leave you in an embarrassing situation, like this one. The London Fire Brigade is warning against a social media craze that’s been around since 2019 and seems to be getting more popular again. It seems young people are once again trying to “force themselves into toddler’s swings,” for TikTok likes, the problem is, they can’t get out.

Last week, The London Fire Brigade took to Twitter to say they’ve already been called to 21 incidents of teens and young people getting stuck in swings. “Please think twice so you don’t divert our crews from more serious incidents,” they tweeted. Firefighters have had to remove 105 young people from swings over the last two-and-a-half years in London alone and the numbers are climbing once again.

“Our firefighters attend a wide variety of challenging incidents and far be it from us to judge the precarious positions some people find themselves in,” says Jane Philpott, the brigade’s assistant commissioner for fire stations. But she notes that people’s “quest for TikTok fame” could be tying up “resources which could be needed for a genuine emergency.” So even though squeezing yourself into a baby swing may seem like a fun way to entertain your friends, you may want to pass on this trend.
