I screwed up. Badly. I should have known better. I have talked about having a "brown" thumb for years...yet I somehow thought I could handle trimming the hedges in front of our house. How hard could it be, I thought? All you have to do is grab a pair of hedge clippers and cut back all the overgrown bushes blocking the sidewalk. I never thought I could butcher something so badly...and yet I did just that.
Let me take you back to last weekend. I'm sitting in the driveway, watching Donato ride his bike in the cul-de-sac. I notice how HORRIBLY overgrown the hedges in front of the house had become. They were actually blocking the walkway. I grabbed the hedge clippers from our garage and started trimming. I clearly got carried away. It felt so good taking out all my frustrations on those bushes. Snip, snip, snip. I snapped out of my trance and stared at the mess I had made. I gasped. It was HIDEOUS. I managed to make the landscaping look worse than it was. My husband Don tried to "fix" it...but there was no way to salvage the mess I made.
In case you think I'm exaggerating, I've included a couple of photos of the aftermath. I know I need to call in the professionals at this point. In the meantime, I've been banned from ever touching the clippers again.
