MYM: VA Veteran Turns 100!

Buck Sergeant Jim Wescoat, a WWII vet, celebrated his 100th birthday in Fairfax County last week and has lived a remarkable life.

Three Marines visited him at the Woodlands Retirement Community to celebrate the milestone with cake and balloons!

Wescoat turned 20 years old the day Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941 and enlisted one month later.

After going through boot camp at Parris Island, South Carolina he went to the Naval Prison as a guard in Portsmouth, NH.

After Sea School, he was stationed aboard the Light Cruiser USS Denver (CL58). According to his family, the Denver was actively involved in operations in the Solomons Islands.

Wescoat said he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on October 5, 1945, at the rank of Sergeant, 45 months after enlisting.
