Barbie Is Teaming up With Habitat for Humanity

The first Barbie Dreamhouse came out in 1962, back before women could even legally open their own bank accounts. We’ve come a long way, baby and 2022 marks the 60th anniversary of the Barbie Dreamhouse, so to celebrate the occasion, Barbie is teaming up with Habitat for Humanity on 60 projects throughout the year.

“The only thing as iconic as Barbie is her Dreamhouse, a spectacular home that allows kids to immerse themselves in Barbie’s world, and gives them the room to dream,” says Lisa McKnight, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Barbie and Dolls at Mattel. “Through our collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, we mark 60 years of our Dreamhouse by supporting families around the world, giving their dreams a home.”

In 2022, Barbie and Habitat for Humanity will join forces on home preservation, new construction, and neighborhood revitalization, all to provide better, safer, and more affordable housing for families.

  • Barbie will fund projects in places including Brazil, Canada, and Poland.
  • She’ll also be helping to create a new home for a family in South Los Angeles.
  • Other projects include home repairs, building playhouses and contributing to Habitat’s Women Build program.
  • Employees of Mattel, the company that makes Barbie, will also have the chance to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles on builds in their community, including a new dwelling built in L.A., near Mattel’s global headquarters.
