Remember when you were a kid and you would mix all the fountain drinks into one disgusting drink? Well, it seems that in Utah, that “mixed” drink is very popular. They call it a “dirty soda” and it can be made with all manner of combinations – sodas, syrups, juices, purees, dairy and non-dairy creamers …
There are even chains that specialize in dirty soda -- Swig, Sodalicious, and Fiiz, to name a few. The drink was widely unknown outside of Utah until Olivia Rodrigo was photographed holding a drink from Swig. Soon after, TikTok took notice -- and now it’s all over social media. One particularly popular dirty soda is called the “dirty Coke,” which is made with Diet Coke, coconut coffee creamer and lime juice.
- There is a large Mormon population in Utah and since Mormons don’t drink coffee or alcohol, their vice appears to be dirty soda.
- One TikToker said: “I would say, like, 70% of the population of Utah probably has a soda addiction, including myself, because we have all these really fun drink places around us where they put all a bunch of fun add-ons in the drinks.”
- Another TikToker who worked at one of these soda shops said, “These people are literally addicted to their sodas.”
