Jane Goodall Gets Her Own Barbie

One of the world’s top conservationists is getting the Barbie treatment. Dr. Jane Goodall is being honored with her own Barbie doll in the Inspiring Women series. The doll version of the primatologist is arriving just in time for World Chimpanzee Day and Mattel says it’s made from 90% recycled plastic that would have otherwise been headed for the ocean.

Goodall broke barriers when she left her home in England at age 26 and traveled to Tanzania to learn more about chimps. She learned that they make and use tools the same way humans do and her research led to the creation of the Jane Goodall Institute helps continue her goal of saving the natural world.

Her Barbie doll comes dressed in a classic beige safari outfit with binoculars, a watch, and a tiny field notebook. It also comes with a mini replica of David Greybeard, the first male chimp Goodall named and discovered and he’s even holding a tiny tool. The 88-year-old researcher says she’s “absolutely delighted” to see herself as a Barbie doll and that she hopes to “inspire little girls” everywhere with it.

The Jane Goodall Barbie will be available for $35 starting this month at Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Mattel.com
