PETA Wants You To Go On A Sex Strike With Meat-Eating Men

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, better known as PETA, is once again going to extremes to try to “save the world.” The animal rights group has previously pulled publicity stunts to raise awareness, like when they tried to rebrand fish as “sea kittens” to draw attention to their ability to communicate and feel pain so people wouldn’t want to go fishing or eat fish. And this time around? They’re urging women to go on a sex strike against men who eat meat.

PETA’s German division claims that eating meat is a symptom of toxic masculinity and that it’s bad for the planet. “We all know them—the suburban men with beer bottles in hand, brandishing tongs while cooking sausages on their expensive gas grills,” PETA shares on its website. “These barbecue masters believe that they can prove their masculinity to themselves and their fellow humans through their consumption of meat, not only hurting animals but also harming the planet.”

Laura Weyman-Jones, marketing manager for PETA Australia, discussed the sex ban on Sky News Australia’s “News Day,” saying it’s “designed to be a conversation starter.” She says the group doesn’t really care about our sex lives, but they do care about “the planet and the animals we share it with and that those animals are dying by the billions in the crudest ways imaginable for burgers and sandwich filling.” She also claimed that “vegan men get more matches on dating apps because compassion is more attractive.”

  • PETA also points to a study that found men cause 41% more greenhouse gasses, primarily because they eat more meat. “Now there’s scientific evidence that toxic masculinity also harms the climate. So a hefty meat tax of 41 percent for men would be appropriate,” Daniel Cox, Team Leader Campaigns at PETA Germany said in a statement. “A ban on sex or reproduction for all meat-eating men would also be expedient in this context.”
