Do you want to start working out but the thought of going to the gym totally freaks you out? You’re not alone – just peek at the “shy girl” hashtag on TikTok and you’ll see so many others that feel the same way. There are over 400 million views for shy girl workouts on TikTok!
So, what is a shy girl workout? Basically, it’s you going to the gym, but staying in just one part of the gym and keeping to yourself. AFAA-certified fitness instructor Alayna Curry explains, “If you stay in one corner you’re less likely to encounter and engage with a ton of people.” Also, be sure to have headphones on or even wear a hat if you want more layers of being incognito.
What exactly is the workout then? You can do anything you want! Most shy girl workouts tend to keep things simple but that’s not a rule. Strength and conditioning specialist Alison Roessler suggests, “Focusing on the basics that can be done in one place — like core work, chest presses, rows, squats, and lunges — will build a solid foundation before you work with equipment at higher loads or try more dynamic moves.” These are all exercises that don’t take much space or require much equipment.
