American Girl Is Releasing A 90s Doll

American Girl has released its newest “historical” dolls and get ready to feel old! Fraternal twins Isabel and Nicki Hoffman are from the 90s … the 1990s. They join other historical characters from eras past, including Kaya from 1764, Josefina from 1824, Kit from 1934 and Julie from 1974.

These twin dolls have a backstory that takes place in Seattle in 1999, and their accessories - purchased separately, of course - are like a walk down memory lane. They include a desktop computer, a purple inflatable chair and a Pizza Hut BOOK IT set, complete with the chain’s nostalgic red cup.

But the sisters have very different personalities. According to the American Girl website, “Isabel is bubbly, extroverted and very into pop music,” while Nicki is “thoughtful, introverted and passionate about skateboarding.” While Nicki is “expressing herself with zines (homemade magazines) and song lyrics,” Isabel is leaning in to “her passion for party planning and interior decorating.”

  • Isabel’s style is described as “Clueless” preppy, she wears a purple sweater vest and plaid skirt. You can also buy her accessories that include a beret, pink bag, a scrapbook and even a miniature pretend Tamagotchi, those digital pets that were popular in the 90s.
  • Nicki’s skater style outfit includes a gray T-shirt under a blue tank dress, with a flannel shirt tied around her waist. You can buy her extra accessories that include a baseball hat, black sunglasses, a messenger bag and a yin-yang necklace.
  • The twins are available now at American Girl’s website or in their stores nationwide.
