The First 3D-Printed Hotel Is Coming To The US

Plans are underway for the world’s first 3D-printed hotel and it will bring the future to Marfa, Texas. Hotelier Liz Lambert announced the new project at SXSW, sharing that it will become part of El Cosmico, the popular glamping destination located there. The project is called Sunday Homes, and it’s inspired by proposed designs for homes in outer space.

Lambert and her team are partnering with 3D-printing construction firm Icon and Danish architecture company Bjarke Ingels Group on the hotel, which will be built on 60-acres. It will include both El Cosmico’s current glamping-style accommodations, and the new 3D-printed buildings, as well as a circular infinity poll, open-air bathhouse and communal areas.

The renderings Lambert shared show a set of curved, hut-style accommodations in neutral tones, which are supposed to reflect the similar landscapes of outer space and Marfa. The plans include two-, three-, and four bedroom units, ranging from 12-hundred to 22-hundred square feet and each one comes with views of the nearby Davis Mountains. Construction is expected to get underway in 2024.
