Parents worry about their kids all the time, and when they’re babies, a lot of their concerns are related to whether they’re hitting childhood developmental milestones, like crawling and rolling over, when they should. But TikToking mom and pediatrician Dr. Sami reveals that there are some other “secret” milestones that parents might not know about and may miss.
She’s going viral for sharing these benchmarks that moms and dads should take note of as their kids grow. In a new video, Dr. Sami explains that not all kids will experience these, and that’s totally fine, but many will.
- For newborns, a secret milestone is that they hiccup a lot, which is “totally normal.”
- They also scream bloody murder for everything. “It doesn’t matter if they’re hungry, if they’re wet, if they’re bored,” Dr. Sami explains. “It’s just like one setting, and it’s like, ‘I’m dying!’”
- When babies are four months old, she says that’s when they’re super cute and smiling all the time, but also when they grab your hair and won’t let go.
- Between six to nine months, she says babies start to do weird things that make moms and dads wonder, “Is that normal?” She assures parents that babies shaking their heads all the time or sticking their tongues out a lot is “totally normal” and a milestone.
- People tend to think that temper tantrums start after age two, but Dr. Sami says they can start between 12 and 15 months, another milestone.
- “Also, around 15 to 18 months, they all totally try to kill themselves every day,” by doing things like jumping off the couch to see what happens. But rest assured, it’s fine and just another milestone.
- Other milestones for toddlers include picky eating, selfishness and being unreasonable.
- For kids between four and six, milestones are asking “why” all the time and talking nonstop.
- It’s very normal for older kids between nine and 11 to experience anxiety and even talk specifically about death and mortality.
- And by the time they’re teenagers, their milestones include having a different circadian rhythm and wanting to stay up late and wake up late. That’s why another milestone is teens being tired all the time.
