5 Ways To Get A Raise ASAP

Most Millennials will tell you that the best and quickest way to grow your salary is to move from job to job, but it’s actually much more strategic than just that. Software engineer Daniella Flores shared with CNBC the steps she took to grow her salary from $60,000 to $140,000 in five years, and it's all about negotiating and championing yourself:

  • Use data to increase your confidence. Research sites like Glass Door and the Fishbowl App to learn salaries based on position, skill sets, experience, and education. And keep a “brag sheet” of your accomplishments.
  • Present your salary goals in ranges. Leave some wiggle room.
  • Ask about money early on. Many job postings list it. There’s no point in wasting anyone’s time if the compensation isn’t adequate or negotiable.
  • Fight for non-negotiables – Time off, sign-on bonuses, performance bonuses, flexible scheduling, etc.
  • Know when to walk away. If they’re hard selling you or playing to your emotions and not meeting you on any of your non-negotiables, it might be time to move on.
