Small Business Donates To Help Robbed Landscaper Get Back To Work In MD

On May 30th, thieves rolled up into Divine Landscaping in Fort Washington, Maryland, and made off with nearly $40-thousand worth of equipment. Divine Landscaping owner Kevin Moore was devastated to see all that he’d worked so hard for just disappear, but he had a business to keep going and customers and employees that were depending on him, so he put in a claim with his insurance and got right back to work using old equipment they had lying around.

Unfortunately, Moore’s insurance would only cover less than half the expense of the stolen equipment, so he turned to crowdfunding to try and help keep the business afloat. His story was also shared on local news and that’s where it caught the attention of Rod Wheeler, owner of Wheeler’s Ace Hardware in Capitol Heights, Maryland. He reached out to Moore with an offer of free equipment and a financial donation.

Wheeler got in touch with Moore, who visited the store to collect the donated items, which Wheeler describes as new but with minor defects. Wheeler insisted on donating the items to Moore rather than marking them down for sale. He also gave Moore a check for $500 to help him get his business back on its feet. A grateful Moore was blown away by Wheeler’s generosity and reflected on what the support meant for him. “We have such a powerful community,” Moore says. “It completely shifts the negativity out of the situation.
