How To Skinny Dip Safely

The weather this summer is so incredibly hot, stripping off our clothes or jumping into the water to cool off is more appealing than ever. Of course, you could combine the two and go skinny dipping. There are laws about public nudity to consider, but aside from those, there are things to keep in mind to make the most of this liberating experience.

Here’s how to be discreet and stay safe while skinny dipping:

  • Bring a friend - If no one knows you went skinny dipping, did it even happen? Having a bestie by your side can make a lifelong memory and help you shake any self-conscious feelings you may have.
  • Swim sober - Having a few drinks before you jump in can be dangerous, as alcohol affects your balance and increases the chance of getting injured. Plus, it can make you louder, which raises the risk of getting caught.
  • Undress underwater - If you’re feeling modest, leave your bathing suit area covered until you’re neck-deep in the water. Then take off your clothing and tie it around your waist until you get out and put it all back on.
  • Take a dip in the dark - Swimming by moonlight is another way to protect your privacy.
  • Hide your clothes and towel - If you’re worried about pranksters, stash your clothes, towels and personal items somewhere they can’t be seen. Nothing ruins the fun of skinny dipping quicker than having to take that long walk back to your car naked.
  • No photos - This is one experience that you don’t need to capture for the ‘Gram.
  • Keep your hands to yourself - Just because you’re swimming nude doesnt’ mean it’s sexual, so don’t put your hands where they don’t belong on anyone else joining you to skinny dip.
  • Do what makes you comfortable - If all your friends are going skinny dipping, but the idea of being naked in a crowd terrifies you, just say no to the invitation. You don’t have to strip down just because they are, no matter how hot it is.
