If you’re on dating apps, you may think that potential partners are only looking at our profile photo and personal information, but new research reveals there’s something else they’re checking out in your bio. According to a new study, they’re also interested in your personality, and it turns out, some personality types are more likely to get a swipe right than others.
The study finds that people on dating apps tend to prefer people who have similar levels of three personality traits: agreeableness, conscientiousness and extraversion. Researchers not only confirmed the previously proven idea that couples who have similar personalities tend to report being more satisfied in their relationships, they also found that sharing those three traits are the most important for relationship success.
Sexologist Alice Child points out that while couples with similar attitudes, values and backgrounds may have more lasting intimacy and connection, having some differences can help spice things up a little. “Some personality differences are often important in an intimate relationship and are often what attracts us to the person in the first place,” she says. “After all, it would be pretty boring to date ourselves.”
