Ingrid Bynum, the principal of Patrick Henry K-8 School in Northern Virginia, recently won the Virginia Mrs. America crown. Although she had previously participated in only one other pageant twenty years ago, she decided to enter this competition to draw attention to her passion for student literacy.
Bynum, who is also a mother and school principal, prepared for the pageant in secret, focusing on fitness and glamor. She won the title in June and aims to use her platform to highlight the importance of student literacy. Her goal is to secure funding to provide a book to every child in Virginia, particularly those in underserved communities, believing that strong reading skills are key to success. Bynum's win not only advances her cause but also inspires her students, and she will compete in the national competition later in August.
In addition, there is a People's Choice award that raises scholarship funds, and Bynum is currently in first place for this award. You can vote by going here and clicking on Mrs. Virginia.
