Silent Walking Is On The Rise

A new fitness trend is gaining momentum and it couldn’t be easier. All you have to do is lace up your sneakers, ditch your phone and earbuds and go for a stroll. It’s called a silent walk and it’s all about embracing the quiet for a change.

For a while, the coolest kind of walk was the hot girl walk, which encourages women to take an empowering trek while listening to their favorite music. But silent walks are a totally different vibe, where the goal isn’t to tune anything out, but to be one with your thoughts. The hashtag #SilentWalk has racked up more than 350-thousand walks and those who’ve tried it say it’s great for relieving stress and inspiring creativity.

Julia Salvia says her silent walks have helped reduce her anxiety and she says, “These walks help me become so mentally clear, and I want everyone to experience that.” Other fans of the practice say it’s been a game changer for their mental health, including Mady Maio, who first coined the term for it back in June. “Your brain just gets into this flow state and everything is quiet,” she explains. “After 30 minutes of silent walking, I suddenly had the clarity that I had always been looking for.”
