DMV Events Commemorating 9/11

To commemorate the 22nd anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks, areas all around the DMV are hosting events so you can remember in your own way. Thanks to MSN, they created a list just for you.

  • Mason Nation 9/11 Day of Service: George Mason University is hosting its 11th annual Mason Nation 9/11 Day of Service on Monday, September 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. This event invites students, faculty, staff, and community members to participate in various service projects, including card making, a blood drive, and a Service Fair.
  • Vets Nite Open Mic: Busboys and Poets in Hyattsville, Maryland, is hosting an open mic event on Monday, September 11, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. This event aims to connect veterans and the community. Veterans who served post-9/11 will share their stories during the event.
  • 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb: Participants can register for a 1-mile run, 5K, 10K, half-marathon, or marathon. The registration fee is $16, which includes a medal, bib, and a donation to charity. 15% of each registration fee will be donated to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, honoring firefighter Stephen Siller, who lost his life on 9/11.
  • 9/11 Heroes Run: The Travis Manion Foundation's 9/11 Heroes Runs are held nationwide, including in the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia) area. Participants can choose between a 1-mile walk or a 5K run. There are two locations in the DMV region:
  • Annapolis, Maryland: The race at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium begins at 11 a.m.
  • Oakton, Virginia: The race at Oakton Elementary starts at 8:30 a.m.

These events provide opportunities for individuals to come together, pay tribute to those affected by the events of 9/11, and support charitable causes in remembrance of the tragic day.
