You May Want To Rethink Hyphenating Your Last Name

Are you getting married soon and considering a hyphenated last name? Here's why you may want to reconsider.

In a viral TikTok, a tech specialist named Morten Rand-Hendriksen -- whose own last name is hyphenated -- explains why hyphenated last names are actually a terrible idea.

The main problem is that most identity systems don't recognize hyphens, which means getting your license, passport, or other important document can be more complicated ... and cause you problems.

As he explains, “My passport registers as two last names with no hyphen. But airline tickets register as one smushed-together name. So that passport name doesn’t match the airline ticket name, and there’s nothing I can do about it.” He says it caused his brother, who travels often, so much trouble that he legally changed his last name.
