Advanced High-Tech Restrooms Debut in Fairfax Parks

The city of Fairfax, Virginia, is launching a pilot program in partnership with D.C. startup Throne Labs to introduce three high-tech luxury toilets in city parks. Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read initiated this program due to a lack of restroom facilities in the city's parks and at events, an issue she campaigned on. Throne Labs aims to redefine the traditional porta-potty experience with these new facilities, offering features like fresh water, climate control, free feminine hygiene products, and no-touch technology. Users can enter the toilet using a QR code displayed outside and are asked to rate its cleanliness after use. The pilot program will run until December, after which the city council will assess whether to continue using these high-tech toilets until they can budget for permanent brick-and-mortar restrooms in public parks.
