MYM: Urban Garden Brewing - Breaking Boundaries in the Craft Beer Industry

In the craft beer realm, a rising star is reshaping the game. Meet Amoni Collier, the mastermind behind 'Urban Garden Brewing,' whose journey from home brewing in her uncle's backyard led to brewery success.

In 2022, Collier officially launched 'Urban Garden Brewing,' with her brews now found in 40+ bars and stores across Washington, D.C. Her standout creation is Camolite, praised for its smooth honey and chamomile blend, perfect for any occasion.

Navigating the craft beer industry as a self-distributor has its challenges, compounded by the industry's lack of diversity. Collier's experiences in male-dominated conferences inspire her mission to open doors for others.

While the craft beer industry thrives, only 2% of breweries are fully owned by women, and less than 1% are Black-owned, as per the Brewers Association survey. Collier aims to be a catalyst for change.

Urban Garden Brewing is preparing for a new chapter, securing a lease in Fort Totten. A community fundraiser supports their journey toward an art-infused, luxurious brew pub, a first for D.C.

Collier's vision extends beyond beer; she seeks to diversify the industry's clientele, envisioning more women and Black women enjoying quality brews.

In addition to 'Urban Garden Brewing,' other black-owned beer brands in the DMV region include Black Viking Brewing, Joyhound Beer Company, Patuxent Brewing Company, Sankofa Beer Company, Soul Mega, and Liquid Intrusion Brewing Company.

The Black Brew Movement plays a pivotal role, connecting Black-American culture with craft beer and promoting diversity through a map of black-owned craft beer brands in the DMV.

Amoni Collier and 'Urban Garden Brewing' are more than just brewers; they're catalysts for change, breaking boundaries, and paving the way for a more inclusive craft beer landscape. When you sip Camolite, you're not just enjoying great beer; you're supporting a movement reshaping the craft beer world into a more welcoming place for everyone. Cheers to that!
