Check Out These DMV Area Solar Eclipse Watch Parites

How often do you get to witness a total solar eclipse? The next opportunity won't present itself until 2044, so mark your calendars and get ready for an astronomical experience like no other!

On Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will grace the skies over North America, Mexico, and Canada. While the DMV region may not be in the path of totality, there are still plenty of opportunities to join in the celestial celebrations with various viewing events and parties planned throughout the area.

Here are some of the exciting eclipse viewing events happening in and around the DMV:

  1. National Mall Solar Eclipse Festival: Join in the festivities on the National Mall between 4th and 12th Streets from noon until 4 p.m. This event, in collaboration with Smithsonian museums, NASA, NOAA, and others, promises a fun-filled experience for all attendees. Don't forget to bring your own viewing glasses!
  2. Hotel Zena Eclipse Viewing Party: Head to Hedy's Rooftop at Hotel Zena for an exclusive eclipse viewing party from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $15 per person.
  3. The Ven at Embassy Row Eclipse Party: Enjoy eclipse-themed drinks and spectacular views at The Ven at Embassy Row from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets for this cosmic event are $10 per person and include eclipse eyewear.
  4. Observatory Park in Gaithersburg: Experience the eclipse with hands-on activities and free solar glasses at Observatory Park.
  5. Gateway Park in Arlington: Join the Rosslyn BID for an afternoon of eclipse viewing from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Special solar glasses will be provided for attendees.
  6. NASA Goddard Visitor Center Viewing Event: Register to attend the viewing event at NASA Goddard Visitor Center from noon until 4 p.m. on April 8.
  7. Franklin Park Arts Center Eclipse Experience: Engage in hands-on activities and enjoy improv, art, and planetarium experiences during the free eclipse event from 2:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Registration is encouraged.
  8. Friends Wilderness Center Eclipse Picnic: Join in the eclipse potluck picnic at Friends Wilderness Center in Harpers Ferry. Experiment with pinhole projection and enjoy the celestial spectacle. Donations are appreciated.
  9. Turner Farm Viewing Event: Witness the eclipse at Turner Farm starting at 1:30 p.m. Registration is $10 per person and includes free solar viewing glasses.
  10. University of Maryland Eclipse Gathering: Gather on the front lawn of Glenn L. Martin Hall between 1:45 p.m. and 4:45 p.m. to view the eclipse with students, teachers, and faculty.
