TikTok's "Fart Walk" Trend: A Surprisingly Healthy Habit

Among the many viral trends that TikTok has popularized, the "fart walk" stands out—not just for its quirky name, but also for its potential health benefits. Unlike some other Gen Z trends, this one might actually be good for you.

The "fart walk," a term coined by wellness influencer Mairlyn Smith in March 2024, involves taking a 20-minute stroll about an hour after dinner. This simple activity is designed to aid digestion and boost overall well-being. In her viral TikTok video, Mairlyn (@mairlynthequeenoffibre) explains, "Going for a 'fart walk' after dinner helps with digestion and aging. My husband and I do this almost every night."

Mairlyn, 70, who follows a high-fiber diet, finds that this nightly walk not only helps with digestion but may also reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by stabilizing blood sugar levels. Dr. Chun Tang agrees, noting that post-meal walks are a healthy habit that can enhance digestion and improve blood sugar control. It’s a simple yet effective way to improve overall health—one that’s gaining traction for all the right reasons.
