15-Year-Old Yevin Goonatilake Makes History as GMU’s Youngest Graduate

At just 15 years old, Yevin Nikhel Goonatilake has already achieved what most students take years to accomplish. The Leesburg native made history this week, graduating from George Mason University’s College of Engineering and Computing with a bachelor’s degree—and a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Goonatilake’s record-breaking accomplishment makes him the youngest graduate with a 4.0 in GMU’s history. But the journey doesn’t stop there for this exceptional teen. Yevin is already on track to complete his master’s degree in computer science by May 2025.

And what about those typical teenage milestones? Yevin jokes he might squeeze in time to get his driver’s license along the way.

“He’s blowing us all away. I still can’t believe it,” said his mom, Llana, beaming with pride.

Beyond his academic brilliance, Yevin has a passion for sports. He’s an avid cricket player and dreams of one day representing the U.S. national cricket team. When asked about his future goals, his answer was clear and confident:

“PhD,” he said.

With his drive, talent, and determination, there’s no doubt Yevin Goonatilake’s story is only just beginning.
