A Commanders Fan for 70 Years: At 97, He’s Hoping for a Super Bowl Dream

Bill Kerpelman, a 97-year-old lifelong fan from Silver Spring, has cheered for the Washington Commanders for over seven decades. This season, he’s thrilled by the team’s strong performance and hopes they’ll reach the Super Bowl.

“It’s been a terrific season. What a thrill,” he said. Despite never attending a game in person, Kerpelman’s devotion has remained steadfast through decades of highs and lows. “They’ve done great this year,” he added. “In two more games, I think they’ll be in the Super Bowl.”

However, Kerpelman faces an unexpected challenge: his TV has been broken for over a month, with repairs delayed. During a recent game, his daughter called to provide a play-by-play recap. While his apartment complex has a lobby TV, traveling there is difficult for him. Yet, his determination remains strong. “I’ll have to bum a game off somebody else to watch it,” he joked. “But I’ll find a way.”

For Kerpelman, this season is more than just football. It’s about resilience, hope, and celebrating a team’s hard work. As the Commanders gear up for the NFC Championship, Kerpelman and countless fans are ready to cheer them on, hoping to witness a long-awaited victory.
