FEEL GOOD FRIDAY: Where Memory Fades, Music Remains

In Manassas, Virginia, the Forgetful Friends choir offers more than just music—it provides connection, comfort, and a sense of belonging for people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia, and memory challenges. The group brings together those affected, along with caregivers and volunteers, to share in the simple joy of singing familiar songs.

Each rehearsal is carefully designed to be welcoming and stress-free, with no pressure to perform perfectly. Participants may not always remember the lyrics or even why they came, but the act of singing unlocks something powerful. Familiar melodies can spark memories, lift moods, and create moments of clarity and connection.

The choir also offers emotional support for caregivers, who often find comfort in seeing their loved ones light up through music. For many, the choir has become a cherished ritual—a place where memory loss doesn’t define the experience, and where music serves as a bridge between past and present.

Held at the Manassas Church of the Brethren on the second and fourth Thursdays, Forgetful Friends is a reminder that even as memory fades, the healing power of music endures.
