Make Your Monday: Confidence Sparked a Movement for Local Teen

At just 16 years old, an Ellicott City teenager is turning her own struggles into something powerful for others. Karishma Sharma remembers what it felt like to be the quiet kid — the one who hesitated to raise her hand in class and constantly worried about what others thought. Confidence didn’t come easily. But things slowly began to change when she started taking acting and modeling classes.

Through those experiences, she discovered her voice and realized how much confidence can transform the way a young person sees the world — and themselves. That realization sparked an idea much bigger than herself. Karishma created a nonprofit called BoldHER Future, designed to help young girls build the same confidence she once struggled to find.

Through free leadership workshops and events, the organization brings girls together to learn, grow, and see examples of strong women leading in different fields.

What started as one teen’s personal journey has now grown into a movement to remind young girls that their voices matter — and that the leaders of tomorrow are already sitting in today’s classrooms.
