FEEL GOOD FRIDAY: Finding Peace One Clover at a Time

On Saint Patrick’s Day, seeing someone scanning the grass for a little luck might not raise an eyebrow. But in Washington, D.C., that quiet search has become something much deeper for Walter Jenkins — a ritual rooted in healing, not just tradition.

For more than 1,000 consecutive days, Walter has stepped outside in every kind of weather, carefully studying patches of clover. Day after day, he’s kept going — and somehow, the clovers keep appearing. Some with four leaves, others even more rare, including one with nine.

His journey started on a day that carried emotional weight, just after the anniversary of losing his father — a loss that stayed with him for decades. In the quiet of that moment, he found his first four-leaf clover. And with it, a sense of peace he hadn’t felt in a long time. So he went back out the next day. And the next.

What began as a way to cope slowly became a daily act of resilience. Now, each clover is a reminder that even in grief, there are small moments of light. That healing doesn’t always come all at once, but in quiet, consistent steps.
