MAKE YOUR MONDAY: New Program Offers Free Ubers for Disabled Residents

For many people living with disabilities, something as basic as getting around can be a real challenge — and that can impact everything from work to health care to social life. In Prince George’s County, a new partnership is trying to make that easier.

The nonprofit The Arc Prince George’s County is teaming up with Uber to provide free rides for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The goal is simple: give people more reliable, flexible transportation options so they can get where they need to go.

Through the program, some riders can call The Arc to schedule a trip, while others can use a code to request an Uber directly. It’s designed to meet people where they are, depending on their level of independence and comfort with technology.

Right now, transportation demand often exceeds what existing services can handle. This partnership helps fill that gap by tapping into Uber’s larger network of drivers, making it easier for people to get to appointments, jobs and community activities.

At the end of the day, it’s a practical solution to a common problem — helping more people move through their daily lives with fewer barriers.
