Don’t hit the snooze button any more—it’ll mess up your entire day.

Experts at Sleep Clinic Services say hitting snooze makes your brain release hormones which would usually send you into a deep sleep—when you’ve only got a few minutes to sleep.

This ultimately causes “sleep inertia”—or that groggy feeling you often get when you sleep in on the weekends. The experts note, “The start of the sleep cycle is not a good time for being jolted awake by your alarm again.”

"I believe that sleep is so important, and I have hit snooze many, many times," said American Radio Presenter Toby Knapp. "While it's refreshing to snooze at times, I am aware now that the sleep inertia and groggy feelings are bad, not good for us as people and I am hopeful to be able to fix this because I think its so important. Let's have a great night of sleep, so let it be written."
