#READTHISFIRST: Things you need to know today! (12/6)

You should know you really look great today... thanks so much for choosing to #ReadThisFirst on a Thursday...

First off... Today is St. Nicholas Day: St. Nicholas was a third-century saint who sold all his possessions and gave his money to the poor. St. Nicholas became part of the inspiration for the modern-day Santa Claus. (National Calendar Day)

Taylor Swift. She really is a candidate for sainthood...

In New York City on Wednesday night, Taylor Swift made an unannounced appearance at a LGBTQ charity fundraiser.

The Ally Coalition, which was founded by Taylor’s dear friend Jack Antonoff, aims “end discrimination against LGBTQ people by creating opportunities for fans and entertainers to advocate for equality.”

As singer Hayley Kiyoko ended her set, she introduced Taylor with a little sarcasm, saying, (quote) "So I’m gonna bring out a friend. She’s really talented. She just got off tour. She just signed with Universal and she’s really nervous.”

Taylor took the stage with her acoustic guitar. She and Hayley duetted on “Delicate” and the crowd sang along. Afterward, Jack Antonoff grabbed the microphone and joked, (quote) “I’d like to thank Taylor for opening for us!” (Variety)

HOLIDAY PARTY WARNING: No amount of booze is safe for you!

According to a new study, no amount of alcohol is safe to consume. Not one bit. Zero. Nada.

The researchers behind the study concluded that booze offers no health benefits. But instead, it’s the seventh leading cause of death worldwide -- and the biggest cause of death of people between the ages of 15 and 49.

There’s alcohol-related cancer, heart disease, infectious diseases, intentional injury, traffic accidents and accidental injury -- all leading to 2.8 million deaths each year.

So while kicking back with a cold beer while watching a game might be fun, the scientists here are taking all the fun out of it, warning you to stay away from alcohol. Very far away. (Health Essentials

HEALTH: Having a ONE NIGHT STAND or random hookup... is GOOD FOR YOU!

Researchers have found that casual hookups and one-night stands are good for your emotional health.

Sure, they come with the risk of contracting a sexually transmitted disease. But if you stay safe, getting it on with a stranger offers just as much intimacy as doing the mattress mambo with your wife or girlfriend.

You end up getting all of the benefits of connecting with another human being, without all the relationship and commitment garbage. (Uproxx)
