#PETS: I'm a VET and these are things you can do to show your pet you care!

She's a vet... and she's sharing some things you and I can do as pet owners to show our fur-babies we care. So let's take a look at this list and see what she has to say:

SHOW SOME LOVE

Cats and dogs are different. Cats LOVE scratches along the cheek and under the chin and long strokes down the back. Avoid the tail, though. DOGS love to be pet on the shoulders, neck and chest.

DON'T move your hand against the direction of the fur and don't put your hand over a pet's head - the blind spot - it might freak 'em out. Always come at your pet from the side to make you seem friendlier.

Put your hand in front of your pet, typically, they'll guide you to where they want you to pet 'em.

WATCH THE FOOD...

Too many treats = bad. Just like humans, too much of the sweet stuff will make 'em gain weight, which leads to all sorts of other issues. Try verbal rewards, instead. Or, give some healthier treats, like carrots, green beans and brocolli for the dogs, and cats, well, hide the treats around the house so they get some exercise in whilst looking for them!

It's also important to measure the food and to feed 'em at certain times during the day, too. Schedules count.

Invest in their health

Pets can be expensive, especially as animals continue to live longer. So get some good pet insurance. Do your homework and get a plan which reimburses you for what you spend on your pets, and don't be afraid to actually use it!

Go to the vet regularly

You go to the doctor, right? Well, your pet should be no different. Take 'em to the vet regularly and get 'em checked out so you know where they stand when it comes to their health and wellness!

Spend quality time together

Spending time with your pet strengthens your bond and provides multiple benefits for both your health and theirs. Bonding with your pet can help to reduce stress and and anxiety. It also means increased opportunities for exercise and socialization. It is important to remember that your pet spends a lot of their day waiting for you to come home. So make the most of their daily walks, practice some tricks and give them a treat, spend a day off together in front of the TV and give 'em some love!
